BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Design & Media at Bournville College

Course description

This level one course allows you to develop your artistic skills and enables you to build a portfolio of your own art work. It gives you the opportunity to work with a range of materials to produce art in your own style.

Course content

This course will focus on developing your design and digital skills through a range of projects using a range of different media. You will be encouraged to develop your own style while producing individual pieces of work.  You will also have an opportunity to work collaboratively on shared projects in filming and photography to develop your research skills and team work.

You will work with specialist equipment in a dedicated art and media resource room. You will be taught by experienced artist and media tutors and you will have the opportunity to visit galleries and exhibitions.

As part of a foundation learning programme you will also have to work towards your functional skills and a Personal Development qualification.  These will be embedded within your art sessions and will have a focus on developing your functional and social skills as well as your artistic talents.

All elements of the course are mandatory. You will be expected to participate in all elements including functional skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course other than an interest in art and design.

Assessment

You will build a portfolio of art work which will be marked against the qualification criteria. You will be marked on how you have used your skills to produce your works of art.
To pass your functional skills you will have to sit a timed assessment.

Future opportunities

This qualification will give you the opportunity to progress onto Art & Design BTEC Level 2 Diploma or Creative Media Production BTEC Level 2 Diploma.  Consideration would also be made for Music BTEC Level 2 First Diploma.
