Psychology A-Level at Tavistock Community College
The first year of this course is an AS level qualification and consists of 2 units of study. The student may continue to study for a second year in order to gain an A2 qualification. We all like to speculate about why people behave as they do and we try to find reasons for their behaviour. The fascinating subject of Psychology does this in a scientific way. Students will learn to design and run scientific investigations into human behaviour and will develop their skills to analyse and critically evaluate theories put forward to explain our own and others behaviour. Topics covered include mental illness, obedience, attachment, memory and stress amongst others at AS level and addiction, schizophrenia, eating behaviour and aggression at A2 level. This well respected academic A-level is a useful subject for a wide range of degrees and, apart from the content itself, incudes important skills for the future such as critical evaluation and the use of research to inform theories.
5 A* - C grades including a B grade in GCSE Psychology or a B or a B grade in English and Science GCSEs.
Written examination only, no coursework. AS level consists of two 90 minute examinations. A2 level consists of two examinations, one 90 minutes long and one 2 hours long
