Performing Arts, Performance Level 2 BTEC Diploma at Suffolk One
This course is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the field of Performing Arts. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills across the following disciplines - Music, Dance and Acting.
The course is made up of core units that give students fundamental performance skills, and specialist units which enable in-depth study. These will include: Devising and Performing Plays; Performing Dance; Working as a Musical Ensemble and The Performing Arts Business. Students will need to be prepared to write about and discuss their ideas as well as perform.
Students should budget for the costs of attending live performances in order to gain maximum benefit from this course.
Study will combine both practical and theoretical elements of Drama, Dance and Music, providing a base for a future career in the industry. All the subjects will work together to combine a solid foundation - giving students the practical skills to perform and stage a variety of performances. During the year, students will have the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities to the full.
5 GCSE's A* - E to include GCSE Maths or English at grade D and Drama or Dance or Music . You will also need to commit to an additional 10 hours of study per week. In exceptional cases, students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their performing skills by attending an audition.
This course is designed as a practical course and most of your marks are awarded based on the work you do in workshops, and during performances. There are written elements to the course that provide evidence of your work: these may include a workshop diary, reviews, evaluations and personal portfolios.
This course provides an excellent opportunity to give students an insight into their chosen career and a springboard to the next step. Whether they intend to stay in education to go onto the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts at Suffolk One, or go straight into employment, this course will provide the basics to help them achieve.
Which subjects complement this course?
The Functional Skills of Maths, ICT and English will be taught as an integral part of the First Diploma.
