*Graphic Products GCSE (One Year) at The Westwood Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)
One year course which allow candidates to develop their visual flair and creativity, in a wide variety of theory and practical project. Both 2 and 3 Dimensional communication is taught with emphasis on high quality graphical presentation and standards.
The course provides opportunities for pupils to develop their skills and knowledge in Technology focusing on the design and making of products using graphic products. These are paper, card, vacuum formed plastic, sheet and block modelling materials including foam, foamboard and 'smart' materials. Early components of the course follow structured schemes of work, with regular practical activities. As the pupils progress, they will be expected to design and develop for manufacture their own product, making a single final piece or a scale prototype.
Coursework Project 60%
There are two tiers of entry; higher (A*- D) and foundation (C - G) which will be decided for each pupil during the spring term of Year 11.
This area of focus involves a good deal of activity in the generation of graphic designs and 3-D products made from graphic or modelling materials. A wide range of techniques will be used. There will also be lessons dedicated to theory work for the written exams and to folder work, such as researching, generating and developing ideas, planning, and evaluation. A final finished product (possibly a display, game, book, activity pack, packaging, etc.) and a folder (with appropriate ICT evidence) must be submitted by the December of Year 11 as the coursework component. Pupils will be encouraged to devise their own project outlines and take some responsibility in the planning of activities during coursework stages. Pupils will also need to show a commitment to homework, individual research, and the presentation of their coursework, including the use of ICT.
