Further Mathematics (AS Level) at Morecambe Community High School
The structure of the course is very similar to the normal A-Level.
In year 12 for AS Further Maths you will study 3 units,
Further Pure Mathematics 1
Series; complex numbers; numerical solution of equations; coordinate
systems, matrix algebra, proof.
Decision Maths 1 (D1) Develop skills in mathematical modelling and the use of algorithms in a variety of situations. A lot of highly paid jobs use the ideas of Decision Maths.
Numerical Methods –Using numerical methods to solve equations that cannot be solved by usual methods. Numerical differentiation and integration.
And in Year 13,
In year 13 for A-Level Further Maths you will study 3 further units. Students must complete Further Pure Mathematics 2 (described below), but there is a greater degree of flexibility for the other two courses. This is usually decided as a group, and is subject to availability.
Further Pure Mathematics 2
Inequalities; series, first order differential equations; second order differentialequations; further complex numbers, Maclaurin and Taylor series.
Each unit is assessed by written paper that is 90 minutes in length, and there is a coursework element for Numerical Methods.
