Technical Theatre - Production Arts Extended Diploma at Pendleton Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is ideally suited to students who wish to pursue a career in the entertainment industry as a technician, stage manager or designer. It is an excellent introduction to stagecraft, theatre lighting and sound and live visuals. The course has had tremendous success with progression to top Higher Education and employment

Course content

You will study a range of technical theatre subjects to enable you to work flexibly in the industry. Topics include:

  • Stage management operations
  • Lighting design and operation
  • Sound design and operation
  • Design planning process
  • Scenic construction for performance
  • Manage a production
  • A range of practical productions including dance, drama and musical theatre

You will also learn employability skills

Entry requirements

Advanced Level 5 GCSE grades C/4s - plus audition

Intermediate Level 4 GCSE grade Ds/3s - plus audition

Assessment

The 13 units you will study over the two years are continually assessed and moderated. The course has a high content of practical production work and you will also undertake academic study requiring logs, reports and research projects. Some unit tasks are externally set and assessed.

Financial information

All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen.
