Fresh Start for A-Levels at City of Westminster College
The course is designed to re-engage students who may have ‘dropped-out’ of existing A-Level or Level 3 programmes, and prepare them to start again in full-time education in September 2016. The course includes a Level 2 qualification which is a mandatory part of the programme and is shared across two modules.
Unit 1: Independent Study Skills
This unit aims to equip students with the skills needed to identify a suitable course of study, how to organize their study time effectively and addressing any personal challenges they may have.
Students will also develop skills to be able to conduct research effectively, using a range of research methods and reading techniques.
Unit 2: Career Skills.
This unit provides students with an understanding of how to solve problems in a learning environment (the college) and to develop skills required by employers. Students will be able to identify the key skills employers look for, identifying their own areas for development and develop a plan and strategy to address these in themselves.
This course is to re-engage students who started a Level 3 or A-Level course at another college or learning environment. You will be expected to have achieved 5 GCSE grades A* - C to be eligible for this programme. Students who wish to graduate to A-Level study typically need 6 GCSE qualifications. Students with 5 GCSE’s who complete this qualification will be eligible* for A-Level study at City of Westminster College. *specific grades for A-Level subjects apply.
Through class based teaching and learning, workshops and project based work around study skills, research, reading, discussion, group and solo activities, and developing skills to re-engage and ultimately become a successful student.
This is a new course but it is specifically designed for those students that want to progress to a full A level study programme. Successful completion should lead the candidate to an A level programme in September 2016.
