Physics at Highcliffe School
This course is for students who have an interest in, and enjoy Physics, want to find out about how things work, enjoy applying their mind to solving problems, enjoy carrying out investigations by the application of imaginative and logical thinking and want to use Physics to support other qualifications or progress onto further studies or employment.
This course will develop knowledge and skills to help understand the wrold around us and how physics is an intrinsic part of our everyday life. The content of this course will address various aspects and applications of physics covering classical physics to more recent discoveries and theories.
The content is split into six teaching modules: Modules 1 to 4 constitute the stand-alone AS Level qualification; modules 1 to 6, combined with the practical endorsement, constitute the full A level.
Module 1: Development of practical skills
Module 2: Foundations of physics
Module 3: Forces and motion
Module 4: Electrons, waves and photons
Module 5: Newtonian world and astrophysics
Module 6: Particles and medical physics
At AS Level: papers 1 and 2 can assess any content from modules 1 to 4 (50% each).
At A level: Paper 1 assesses content from modules 1,2,3 and 5 (37%).
Paper 2 assesses content from modules 1, 2, 4 and 6 (37%).
Paper 3 assesses content from modules 1 to 6 (26%).
