Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of Sports Science and employment within the Sports Science/Development vocational sector.

Who should study a BTEC in Sport?

-You must be committed to the subject and be prepared to participate in physical activity, including leading other students.
-You must be prepared to develop your understanding of the theoretical aspects of sport
-You must have the ability to self-motivate and work independently on the completion of assignments
-You must be committed to completing coursework assignments and be able to meet deadlines
-You must have an interest in applying your knowledge to work related contexts and situations

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of Sports Science and employment within the Sports Science/Development vocational sector.

You will follow a vocationally specific qualification which will develop a range of personal skills and knowledge that will be essential for successful performance in working life. You will study a range of topic areas which will require you to participate practically as well as research and produce written responses to work related assignments briefs.

 

There are four course units covered in the Extended Certificate:

1. Anatomy and Physiology in Sport

2. Fitness Training and Programming for Health

3. Professional Development in the Sports Industry

4. Practical Sports Performance

 

Your programme of study will be coursework based; your skills and knowledge will be assessed through practical tasks, written coursework presentations, and teacher observation and two external exams.

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate is equivalent to 1 A Level.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs, or equivalent, at grade A* - C or 4 – 9, including English Language

Assessment

Units will be assessed in a variety of ways. Students must complete work related assignments in all units to complete the course. Students work will be internally verified by staff and externally verified by the examination board. There are two terminal written examinations for this course.
