Children's Care, Learning and Development - BTEC L3 Subsidiary Diploma at Thornleigh Salesian College

Course description

This course offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the appropriate vocational sector. The BTEC National Award has been developed to provide:

  • Education & Training for Children’s Care, Learning & Development positions
  • A qualification for entry into employment in the Health & Social Care sectors
  • Progression Route to higher vocational qualifications up to Level 5

The BTEC National Award includes 60 hours of Work Experience as well as the following core and compulsory units:

Positive relationships for Children's Care, Learning & Development

Positive Environment for Children's Care, Learning & Development

Promoting Children's Development

Safeguarding Children

Reflecting on Practice in the Children's Care, Learning & Development sector.

Course content

Entry requirements

To study BTEC courses at Thornleigh Sixth Form we expect students to have an interest in the subject they wish to follow. Students must also have demonstrated the ability to complete large amounts of portfolio work in the past and also have a minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent at grade C.

Assessment

Assessment is through portfolio work and is continuous.  Good attendance is essential.  There are no examinations.

The course opens up opportunities for careers within the child care.
