Early Years (with licence to practice) Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

If you have a caring nature and would like to rise to the challenge of caring for children and young people, this could be a great course for you.

You'll learn all about how children and young people grow and how you can support them to learn and develop their social skills. 

This is a busy but very rewarding profession and your tutors on this course will do all they can to make sure you get the most out of the course and that you are prepared for your future career.

Course content

This course covers a broad range of areas and will help you to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge you'll need to succeed in a career working with children and young people.

You'll study:

  • Child and young person development
  • Introduction to communication
  • Equality and inclusion
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Supporting positive behaviour

You'll also be able to put all your learning into practice in a work placement which will be arranged by your tutor.

Entry requirements

You'll need must have one of the following:  

  • 4 GCSEs at grades D or above including 1 at grade C or above in English language or maths  
  • Level 1 CACHE Diploma plus GCSE English language and maths at grade D or above  

Plus a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a satisfactory reference from a school, employer or professional

Assessment

Assignment tasks, direct observation at placement, portfolio of work.

Future opportunities

You could go onto study:

  • childcare Apprenticeship
  • Level 3 CACHE Diploma for the Children & Young Peoples Workforce

You may choose to start a career as an assistant pre-school worker, assistant in a children's centre or an assistant in a day nursery or primary school.
