Theatre Studies A Level at Highfields School

Course description

The A-Level course extends the GCSE skills of responding, developing and evaluating in ways that emphasise their interdependence. Students completing the course will have a thorough understanding of drama and theatre, highly toned analytical and creative skills and an ability to communicate effectively with others.

Course content

AS Course Content
Students will explore one set text in theory and practice. They will also practically explore 2 text extracts, using the ideas of a variety of practitioners, which they will perform and support with a written portfolio. We will make regular visits to theatre productions in order to evaluate and analyse them.

A Level Course Content
Students will explore two set texts in theory and practice. They will also practically explore 3 text extracts, using the ideas of a variety of practitioners, which they will perform and support with a reflective report. Students will also devise an original piece of theatre, supported with a working notebook. We will make regular visits to theatre productions in order to evaluate and analyse them.

Component 1 – Interpreting drama (Written exam)
