Business OCR Level 3 Diploma at St Brendan's Sixth Form College
The 12 unit OCR Diploma is equivalent to two A-levels and is studied over two years; alternatively students can choose the six unit OCR Introductory Diploma, equivalent to one A-level.
All three can be studied in conjunction with other courses. The qualifications provide an opportunity to study the key areas of business and to apply these to selected organisations.
All students will study the following core units:
- The Business Environment
- Business Resources
- Introduction to Marketing
- Business Accounting
- Human Resource
- Management in Business
- Business Communication
- Recruitment and Selection in Business
- Developing Teams in Business
The courses are taught by well qualified and experienced staff, the majority of whom have a business background. You will learn through case studies, group work and presentations, before completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.
- A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grades A*-C or at point 4-9 (including English Language). Level 2 vocational qualifications (e.g. BTEC/OCR) must be a merit grade or above and will count as 1 GCSE equivalent.
- Or Merit at Level 2
All new apecifications will be assessed through a mixture of internally assessed assignments and externally assessed units. External assessment will be set and marked by the exam board. There will be two opportunities for students to take the external assessments. An overall grade of pass, merit, distinction or distinction star is then awarded.
During the course the students are charged for printing and there are also costs incurred when privately buying reliable storage devices to back up their electronic files. In addition, a number of visits may be arranged which will require students to make a contribution towards travelling costs.
OCR qualifications are valued by employers and higher education. The OCR Level 3 qualifications attract the same UCAS points as A Levels. A business qualification could also support you when applying for jobs in business related careers such as accounting, administration, customer service, finance, IT, human resource management, marketing or sales.
The courses include a number of visits to local businesses. Guest speakers may be invited to explain how concepts studied in lessons are actually applied in the business environment. All students are encouraged to apply to take part in the Careers ready programme. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in the Barclays LifeSkills programme which combines work experience and additional sessions in college to develop their employability skills.
The College has excellent ICT facilities, Internet, text books, case studies, business documents and links to real businesses.
