Design and Technology : Fashion & Textiles AS / A Level at Budmouth College

Course description

This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the creative industries.

They will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning into practice by producing products of their choice. Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.

Course content

AS Level

Exam:

Core technical principles and core designing and making principles Additional specialist knowledge. Non-exam assessment (Coursework):

Practical application of technical principles, designing and making principles and specialist knowledge. Written or digital design portfolio and photographic evidence of final prototype. Recommended 35 pages.

A Level

Exam:

Core technical principles and core designing and making principles

Non-exam assessment (Coursework):n-exam assessment (NEA)

Practical application of core technical principles, core designing and making principles and additional specialist knowledge with a written or digital design portfolio and photographic evidence of final prototype.

TAUGHT THROUGH:

Practical sessions; design-based projects; theory sessions; student presentations; industrial visits; visits by designers; international visits.

Entry requirements

Grade B ior above n D&T GCSE Textiles; other D&T subjects by agreement.

Assessment

AS:

• 1 Written Exam

• 1 Piece of Coursework

A Level:

• 1 Written Exam

• 1 Piece of Coursework
