Food Technology A Level at Lady Lumley's School
The course is concerned with the knowledge and understanding of food. These are applied in order to generate solutions to practical problems that arise in everyday life and in industrial and commercial contexts. Designing and making processes are carried out which satisfy a brief and which develop and enrich the skills of the students.
There are 4 coursework units
Unit 1 2 hr written paper
Unit 2 Coursework A single design and make project
Unit 3 2 hr written exam synoptic paper
Unit 4 Coursework Written design and make folder
This course is suitable for students who have achieved grade ‘C’ or above in a GCSE Design and Technology based subject. The love of cooking, together with an interest in learning about nutrition are essential requirements.
The course will be assessed through coursework and examinations
After completing the course students could opt for a career in teaching, hospitality or food sciences Food Technology is a fully recognised qualification for University entry and there are a growing number of new degree courses which focus upon food.
Be prepared to learn independently, be creative and innovative as a result of practical problem solving. In addition you will be able to use ICT to enhance D and T communication skills
