Sports Development and Coaching BTEC Level 3 at St Michael's Church of England High School

Course description

Inspired by Mourinho, Martinez or Rafa? Then BTEC Certificate in Sport allows you to indulge your passion! BTEC Sports Development and Coaching allows you to experience various aspects of the sport and leisure industry practically and theoretically. You will apply techniques and knowledge to complete the vocationally based assessments.

Course content

In the first year, you will have the opportunity to research and analyse Anatomy and Physiology including The Physiology of Fitness and Fitness Testing in Sport and Exercise. You will also undertake a piece of work that requires you to research risk in sport and develop a plan to manage risks in an effective manner. In the second year, you will investigate a range of practical sports, analyse the benefits of exercise, health and lifestyle, and examine Leadership in Sport. All work will be assessed through a range of creative and vocationally relevant coursework tasks allowing you to bring theory into practice.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE PE or a Merit in BTEC Sport.
You must participate in a sporting activity on a regular basis.

Coursework – Unit 1 Certificate (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 2 Certificate (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 3 Certificate (33.3%)

BTEC:
Coursework – Unit 4 Certificate (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 5 Certificate (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 6 Certificate (33.3%)

All assessment is via coursework which is externally moderated following the EDEXCEL specification.

Future opportunities

You can progress to university degree courses including Sports Studies and Sports Development or any university course which requires team work, communication and problem solving skills. Alternatively, you can opt for vocational courses, such as, personal training or coaching courses.
