Media OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma at Brockenhurst College

Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Media Production is an exciting and challenging course that enables you to study a broad range of video/print production techniques.

You will gain essential skills for emplopyment in the media industry and learn computer techniques that will help you in any future employment.

The Level 2 Diploma in Media Production is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide an educational foundation leading to the Level 3 Diploma in Media and range of entry-level careers in the media industry.

Course content

You will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in further education and employment.


The one year course consists of 3 main units including media theory, video production and print production.  You will leave the course with a professional video project and a print design project that will highlight studio skills.


It is equivalent to 4 GCSE's grade A* – C.
 

Entry requirements

 

You must take GCSE English and Maths if you have not yet achieved a C grade in these subjects.

4 GCSE's at grades D or above, including English, or an equivalent vocational qualification

 

Assessment

The course is continuous assessment through assignment-based work.  You will have interim assessments at the end of each term and final assessment at the end of the year.  After the final submission, marks from all units will be added together to give your overall grade.

Financial information

There is a studio fee of £25.
Students may also be expected to pay towards trips.

Future opportunities

If you achieve a Merit or Distinction, a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Media is an ideal route for students who are looking to build on their GCSE grades and lead on to a BTEC Level 3 Diploma or A level programmes.  However, a number of students use the Diploma as a direct step into an entry-level career in the media industry.
