Information and Creative Technology - BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate at City and Islington College

Course description

Information Technology has a huge impact on business and culture. This course gives you a comprehensive introduction to how IT is used in the wider world, along with the skills you'll need to study further or take up a junior position in IT.

Course content

The course is designed to help you develop a range of skills, personal qualities and attitudes for successful performance in a range of IT roles.

You will study seven units: Communicating in the IT Industry; Working in the IT Industry; Computer Systems; Spreadsheet Modelling; Multimedia Design; Presenting Information; and Animation Techniques.

Entry requirements

  • You'll need four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and Maths.
  • Alternatively you'll need a BTEC Introductory Diploma with Merit or above, including Functional Skills at Level 1.
  • Relevant employment experience will also be considered.
  • You'll also have your communication skills assessed at a formal interview prior to full enrolment.

Assessment

Assessment is largely by coursework. You will undertake several problem-solving assessments that closely match challenges found in the workplace.

Future opportunities

Complete the course with a Merit profile or above and you can progress to a full National Diploma in IT. This course will also open the door to working in an IT-based office environment.
