Course description

Public service covers a variety of roles including; paramedics and police officers to environmental and public health officers.

Taking you through the range of services and roles in uniformed public services, the course will help you to understand more about the skills needed to work in this sector.

Course content

This level 3 course will provide you with an in depth knowledge of the service for you to progress onto further training within this area. You will be studying  core units and three specialist units to take your knowledge to the next level.

Progressing the skills that you will need to carry out roles in public services the course includes the following units;

  • Government, policies & the public services 
  • Team Leadership
  • Citizenship
  • Team development
  • Understanding discipline

You will also study seven specialist units, which may include the following;

  • Expedition skills
  • Outdoor activities
  • Fitness

All units are designed to give you a sound knowledge of the industry in order for you to progress in your chosen role.

Entry requirements

You must have:

5 GCSEs at grades A*- C, including English and Maths

Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Public Services at merit, plus GCSE English and Maths at grades A*-C  

Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE Maths and /or English

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course including; written assignments and reports, presentations, research projects, displays, case studies, tests, practical programmes and group activities.

You will also be asked to collate your assessments and produce a portfolio of evidence that is used to assess your final grade.

Future opportunities

A Foundation Degree
Degree-level study in areas such as psychology, social policy or criminology
