Site Carpentry Diploma Level 3 at Rotherham College

Course description

Build your career in construction and learn a skilled trade with our hands-on practical learning that will prepare you for the construction industry.

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, our Construction department hosts first-class facilities, providing you with the perfect foundations to construct a successful career. Whether it’s brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plastering or plumbing, our industry experienced tutors will support you in moving up the career ladder, no matter what level you start at.

The College has strong links with employers such as Willmott Dixon, and our tools are state of the art, thanks to generous donations from Stanley Black and Decker. Previous students have taken part in the HOPE Strategy project; where Rotherham College teamed up with Rotherham Borough Council and charity Action Housing to help renovate derelict houses into fully functioning, modern homes for vulnerable people. There are fantastic opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions such as SkillBuild, as well as the possibility for your work to be entered for the City and Guilds Gold Awards.

Course content

This course is the next stage in the Diploma after completion of Level 2. The course will help you to develop further knowledge and skills to support your career progression within the carpentry and joinery industry.

What will I study?

•Develop your practical skills and take on more advanced projects

•Develop skills in using hand tools and power tools •Learn how to safely use scaffolding and towers

•Develop skills to make window frames, roofing and flooring

•Develop your skills in wood machining to produce practical projects

•Functional Skills in maths and English (for those who have not achieved GCSE grades C or above in these subjects)

Entry requirements

You must have completed a level 2 qualification in a carpentry and joinery subject.


Ongoing assessment of practical and written work.

Financial information

If you want to go further with your learning then why not gain employment and progress on to the NVQ programme or into Higher Education including university.
