Course description

COURSE CONTENT

The course is made up of a series of units which are relevant to the sector. The content of each unit has been carefully selected to reflect the latest developments and approaches within the early year’s sector. Core modules consist of Child Development and Play in Early Years Settings.

‘Child Development’ is relevant to all levels of the qualification and provides underpinning knowledge of theory, factors affecting and stages of development in children. ‘Play in Early Years Settings’ provides an understanding of the different types and value of play and how it is organised and resources. Other units look at Health and Safety, Meeting Needs and Working with Parents and Other Professionals.

The course will be taught with a balance of theory, practical tasks and activities, this will assist in gaining invaluable knowledge, skills and experience in this sector.

The course is assessed through a combination of examination and coursework. The examination is comprised of a series of short and long answer questions based on case studies. Assessment for other units will be through a number of different methods including posters, presentations, leaflets and written work.

Entry requirements

Four or more GCSE grades at A*-D
