A2 Level: Physical Education at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville

Course description

In A2 students will study three more units. Sports Psychology, Comparative and History of Sport. Sport Psychology involves the mental processes which make performers better for example Motivation and Imagery. Comparative involves studying the similarities and differences between Australia, America and the United Kingdom in sport. History of Sport involves the impact of sport over time and how some sports have become popular and others have evolved into local games and how schooling has made a difference to sport in the present day.

 

Entry requirements

5 A * - C achieving at least a Merit for BTEC Sport

 

Assessment

Work is assessed through a written examination in June (worth 60%) and a practical moderation (worth 40%). Practical assessment can be either as a player, a coach, or an official. Students must demonstrate skills for their TWO favourite sports and commentate on one.

 

Future opportunities

The majority of students of physical education go on to be either PE Teachers, Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist, Personal Trainers, Sports Journalism, Commentators, Sports Scientists, Sports Coaches or in the forces.
