Performing Engineering Operations (Multi-skilled) NVQ Diploma Level 1 at St Helens College

Course description

This introductory course is designed for those who wish to gain fundamental, practical skills and knowledge in fabrication and welding, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.

Course content

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Effectively working
  • Communication
  • Turning operations
  • Welding
  • Electrical installation

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. You should have a keen interest in engineering.


You will be assessed by a combination of practical work and portfolio building.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course, you will have the basic skills and knowledge required to gain employment within the manufacturing industry.

Alternatively, you may decide to progress on to a level 2 course to expand your knowledge and skill base or even an apprenticeship to earn whilst you learn.
