Further Mathematics A Level at Strode College

Course description

This is an ideal course for those who enjoy maths and want to take it a stage further than the standard Maths A Level by studying in greater depth. It is excellent preparation for those planning to progress to a degree course in Maths or in a subject with a significant mathematical content, such as Physics or Engineering.

To gain A Level Further Maths, you will need to study extra maths modules in addition to those you study for the Maths A Level. Areas of study will include: complex numbers, matrices and differential equations, together with extra application modules.

Course content

Much of the pure maths studied on this course is studied as part of the first year of an undergraduate degree course and many past students have commented upon how helpful studying this material has been to them when they meet it again at university.

Students are encouraged to enter the UK Senior Maths Challenge including the team challenge which encourages lateral and logical thinking. Support is offered for students who are planning to study maths at university by practising questions from STEP and AEA papers. Students usually have the opportunity to visit a local university for a further maths enrichment day.
