Performing Arts - Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) at Calderdale College

Course description

The qualification will give you an insight into the different career paths that are available to you in the performing arts world and can help you start a successful career, progress in your current line of work, or move on to further study. The course will provide you with a broad range of skills. For example Developing the Voice, Improvisation, TV and Film Acting and Musical Theatre Performance. The department has a quality professional theatre space, which houses around twenty shows per academic year, which are open to a public audience.

Course content

This course is equivalent to  A Levels and is designed to help you extend your understanding of the performing arts, develop your performing skills and learn new ones in our purpose-built performance spaces. It combines practical assignments and the study of variety of performance arts disciplines. You will work on production projects and be involved from backstage to front-of-house duties.

A mixture of technique and performance classes combined with two annual performances per year in the Empty Space Theatre

Entry requirements

An advanced course suitable for those with at least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C or a relevant level 2 qualification such as BTEC First Diploma, GNVQ Intermediate, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent/relevant work experience. Applicants without formal academic qualifications will be considered subject to either a presentation of a portfolio of work or attendance at a selection workshop.

Interview with specialist tutor to include an audition.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

Successful candidates may progress internally onto the Foundation Degree in Performance (Acting) and the BA Top Up in Performance Arts. Learners have gone onto a range of Performing Arts degrees at higher education institutes throughout the country and to work in the theatre and television.
