Financial Studies (Cert/Dip) at Oldham Sixth Form College (OSFC)

Course description

Do you want to know more about managing finances? Financial studies is a relevant and rewarding course which will enable you to manage your own money and perhaps help other people manage theirs too. 
 
The Financial Studies qualifications (CeFS & Dip FS) are designed to provide you with a challenging qualification covering the core disciplines of financial capability including financial management in the short, medium and long term. You will also look at the management of finance globally when you study the sustainability of the Financial Services System so a keen eye for news stories and interest in current affairs is vital.

Course content

Year 1
 
Unit 1 – Financial Capability for the Immediate and Short Term (FCIS)
Unit 2 –Financial Capability for the Medium and Long Term (FCML)
• Importance of financial capability in the immediate, short, medium and long term. 
• Financial services and products, including sources of help and advice. 
• Borrowing, budgeting, financial planning and cash flow forecasting. 
• The impact of external influences at different stages in the personal life cycle. 
• Risk and reward in managing personal finance. 
 
Year 2
 
Unit 3 – Sustainability of an Individual's Finances (SIF)
Unit 4 – Sustainability of the Financial Services System (SFS)
• Importance of financial capability in the immediate, short, medium and long term. 
• The impact of external influences at different stages in the personal life cycle. 
• Risk and reward in managing personal finance. 
• Personal and external factors that lead to change. 
• Maintaining financial sustainability and avoiding long-term debt. 
• The financial services system and financial sustainability (individual and general). 
• Marketing techniques. 
 
 

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 passes (above C or 4) at GCSE, including at least a 4 in Maths and English.

A2 100% exam

Financial information
