Chemistry is a very varied and interesting subject, with great relevance to the outside world. It impacts on many scientific areas including genetic engineering, pollution, pharmaceutical development and medical science.
Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum ofÂ 6 GCSEs at grades A* - C, one of which must be either GCSE Mathematics or GCSE English Language. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.
Modules 1, 2, 4 and 5 are assessed by written examination. Module 3a - Experimental techniques. Module 3c - Practical course work. Module 6a - Synoptic Paper. Module 6c - Practical course work.
A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Chemistry is essential for entry to Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Veterinary Science, and is also required for Forensic Science, Chemical Engineering and Chemical Based Degrees. Chemistry helps to develop a broad range of analytical, and problem solving skills which will be useful in a variety of careers.
