Duration: 2 Years
What will I Study? Studying English Language will develop your ability to express yourself in speech and writing. You will also gain an in-depth understanding of linguistic concepts and methods which will help you to analyse and investigate a variety of extracts taken from everyday sources – both literary and non-fiction texts.
Course Content for the first year, the teaching will focus on: Speech and Writing and Social Contexts (Gender, Power and Technology) for the exam. You will also produce two texts targeted at different audiences with different purposes and in different genres. Alongside two commentaries on how you crafted your work, these will constitute your coursework in the Original Writing module. In the second year, you will progress to study: Child Language Acquisition and Language Change. You will also produce an independently researched report for the Language Investigation module. The course encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and will give you a strong grounding in working with data.
