Unit 2 6PHO2

Waves; different types of waves, Refraction, Polarisation. Electricity; Ohm's Law, Non - Ohmic Materials, potential Dividers, emf,

Thermistor Electrical properties

Nature of Light; Wave / Particle duality.

Unit 3 6PHO3

Practical: an experiment that is founded on either a physics base visit OR a Case study of an application of physics.

A2 : Unit 4 PHO4

Further Mathematics; Momentum and Circular Motion. Frther Electricity; electric & Magnetic Fields. Particle physics; Accelerators, Mass & energy equivalence.

Unit 5 6PHO6

Thermal Energy, Nuclear Decay, Oscillations, Astrophysics and Cosmology.

Unit 6 6PHO6

Practical: An experiment must be planned, carried out and analysed.

Entry requirements

A Minimum of Six A*-C at GCSEs including B in Mathematics and Science. Students should be keen and interested in Physics. Strong Mathematics skills are essential in understanding the subject.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Chemistry and Biology or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Physics, which could lead onto higher education in a science related subject or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Physics such as Science Technician or Electronics Engineer. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
