Biology A-Level at Chase High School
First and foremost, you’ll need to feel inspired by science. Our fully-equipped laboratory environments will help, and there will also be opportunities to spend time with biologists, participate in lectures and seminars, and go on visits to local nature reserves and ecology sites – but the enthusiasm starts with you! Also, this course builds on the concepts and skills developed in the GCSE, so it’s ideal for students who have the skills and knowledge associated with a GCSE Science course. Good mathematical skills are also needed for this course.
You will study six units over the two-year course: three at AS and three at A2 level. Four of the units are assessed by written exam. The other two units, consisting of coursework, assess investigative and practical skills.
- Unit 1 – Biology and disease
- Unit 2 – The variety of living organisms
Investigative and practical skills in AS Biology
- Unit 3 – Populations and environment
- Unit 4 – Control in cells and in organisms
Investigative and practical skills in A2 Biology
5 x GCSEs at Grades A*-C, including English and Maths or an equivalent Level 2 BTEC, with GCSE English and Maths
The skills and knowledge you acquire in this course are universal and will be an ideal preparation for a variety of careers in the scientific sector or beyond. The A Level is the perfect foundation for numerous degree courses including: ecology, biology, forensic science, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, and sports science.
