The qualification has been developed in consultation with employers, and HE representatives have also been involved
to ensure the content is appropriate for those planning to progress to employment after further study.
The qualification is designed for post-16 learners who want to study
art and design related degree courses at higher education. Learners gain knowledge and understanding of visual communication and the creative process to develop their creative voice. Learners develop an understanding of the importance and influence of the
work of artists and designers to develop and realise their creative intentions. They produce a portfolio of art and design work to support progression to higher education.
The course is made up of 13 units of which 7 are mandatory and 4 are
externally assessed. Mandatory content (66%). External assessment (42%).
Optional units allow learners to gain knowledge in areas such as fashion, textiles, graphics, photography, 3D studies and fine art.
5 GCSE's at Band 4 and above including English and Maths
