Geography A level **FEES PAYABLE** at Acorn Independent College
Geography students will develop an understanding of physical and natural processes as well as the effect of human interaction on the physical world. It will allow students to appreciate how places and environments change and how human populations respond to changes in the natural world. Geography touches on Sociology, Economics, and Biology and presents these subjects from a different perspective. It teaches students to understand the management and conservation of natural resources and the basis on which decisions are made about this.
Although details of previous school reports and examination results may be considered, previous academic achievements are not our only criteria. At Acorn House, we value eagerness to learn and willingness to work hard. After discussing possible courses, an offer of a place is made if the student’s aims appear to be compatible with those of the College.
Geography is considered a facilitating subject by Russell Group Universities and can be an excellent companion to both science and humanities disciplines.
The Two-year programme is designed for students who have completed their GCSE courses. Most students will study four AS subjects in their first year, and three of these subjects at A2 in the second year.
The One-Year Fast-Track A Level programme runs from September to June and offers an intensive approach to the student’s chosen subject. This one-year focused approach can be useful for those who have studied AS Levels or A Levels elsewhere but may not have achieved their desired grade and wish to retake their exams.
Our 18 Month A Level course option begins in January. It is particularly suited to students who are wishing to retake the full 2-year A Level course, but who were unable to begin in September, or who wish to move schools following a term in Lower Sixth elsewhere. The first year’s worth of modules for the A Level course will be condensed into the Spring and Summer terms in Lower Sixth, ending in June. Students will then be able to complete their final year of A Level study in the ordinary calendar structure, from September to June.
