Geography Level 3 GCE AS/A2—Edexcel at Oak Academy

Course description

The Geography Department endeavour to make the teaching of A-Level as active and engaging as is possible.
To this end, we try to get out of the classroom and into the field whenever we can.
Within lessons students put together presentations and work on debates and undertake independent learning.
AS Course
Unit 1: Global Challenges
This is an opportunity to explore the meaning, causes and impacts of a number of headline global issues. Opportunities are also provided to evaluate the existing global problems and challenges that the planet faces in the 21stcentury.
Unit2: Geographical Investigations
This Unit provides an opportunity to look at how the Human and Physical Environments are changing and the conflict that this creates. As part of this Unit, you will be required to participate in some local fieldwork trips to carry out fieldwork and to supplement techniques required for the Examination.
A2 Course
Unit 3: Contested Planet
Focus on the geographical challenges facing the use and management of global resources.
Unit 4: Geographical Research
Focus on a physical, social or environmental issue affecting the planet.
This course can lead to a wide range of possible careers and Higher Education opportunities, combining well with both Science and Arts subjects.
Providing the skills for Commerce, Industry and Further Education the subject is increasingly being recognised for its versatility by many universities.
The scope of job opportunities this Course provides for, includes Medicine, Law and Accountancy.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements:
5 A*-C GCSEs including English and History GCSE Grade B
