Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship (Level 2 Intermediate and Level 3 Advanced) at Blackburn College
Practical carpentry and joinery skills are in high demand. If you want a career in the joinery trade then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Wood Occupations Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work as a Joiner in the Construction industry. Carpenters and Joiners prepare and put into place most wooden parts of buildings - from floorboards and roof trusses to expertly-crafted windows and doors.
If you are aged 16-24, and you don't think you have the necessary 'work-ready' skills, we also offer Traineeships. Our 8 week courses provide the essential work preparation training, English, maths and work experience needed to secure your place on an Apprenticeship.
- Set up and use circular saw
- Produce setting out details for routine products
- Mark out for setting out details for routine products
- Install first fixing components
- Install second fixing components
- Erect structural carcassing components
- Maintain non-structural work
There are no specific entry requirements to study an Apprenticeship at Blackburn College. You will have an initial assessment when you come in for an interview, and this will show the level of English and maths qualifications, known as functional skills, that you will study alongside your apprenticeship.
Blackburn College will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible. However we always advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to be actively seeking employment for themselves too.
You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:
- Course work
- Oral questioning
- Portfolio of evidence
- Practical demonstration/assignment
- Practical examination
- Written examination.
The Level 2 Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to progress on to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations. Once you have completed the Apprenticeship as a qualified Joiner you will be equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications required for working within the industry.
There are also a range of career opportunities you could follow including site management, estimating and surveying as well as specialising in shop fitting or form work.
