Course description

Module 1 Title
Investigating Media (2 hours) Exam 50% A/S

Section A– 4 compulsory short answer questions based on one unseen text (moving image, audio, digital/web-based or print)
Section B– One essay on Vampire Genre.

Module 2 Title
Creating Media Coursework 50% A/S

Students will produce: 2 linked media pieces in video print or web form
1500 word evaluation

Module 3 Title
Critical Perspectives (2 hours) Exam 50% A2

Section A– 3 compulsory questions based around unseen material which may be e-media, audio, print, film or TV based.
Section B– Answer 1 question from a choice on:
1) Identities in the media or
2)The impact of new/digital media

Module 4 Title
Media Research and Production Coursework 50% A2

Students will investigate a topic area and then produce a linked piece: For example:-
- Critical investigation – Gender representations in soap operas
- Produce the opening sequence for an episode of a new soap opera

Entry requirements

B or above at GCSE English Language, English Literature, Media or Film Studies.

Future opportunities

Suitable to go onto any university course which is either academic due to the research and essay skills required or a more creative course as students will experience video production and photography skills and their related editing packages.
