  • The European Union

Paper 2: Government & Politics of the USA:

  • Constitutional framework of the US government
  • Legislative branch of government: Congress
  • The executive branch of government: President
  • Judicial branch of government
  • Electoral process and direct democracy
  • Political parties
  • Pressure groups
  • Civil Rights
  • Comparative politics: Comparative study of the US and UK systems, following three approaches:
    • Structural
    • Rational
    • Cultural

Paper 3: Political Ideas:

  • Core ideologies -
    • Liberalism
    • Conservatism
    • Socialism
  • Other ideologies:
    • Ecologism

Entry requirements

4 A* - C Plus grade 5 in English and a Grade 4 in Maths


This is a 2-year Linear A level course. Student will sit 3 x 2 hour exam papers, each with equal weighting in the overall result.
