Art & Design: Photography at Heston Community School

Course description

If you are interested in Photography, enjoy seeing your own ideas come to life and want to learn a range of exciting visual and technical skills, then this is the course for you. In our fully equipped studios, you will explore digital photography, experimental dark room techniques, image manipulation software and all forms of light-based media. It is a highly creative subject, producing some of the most impressive artwork in the school’s annual exhibition. As a result this is a highly popular and successful course.

 

 

Course content

In year 12 you develop your technical Photography skills through studio based sessions, to a very high standard. You will explore your own creative ideas by producing work in response to a theme. You will explore and analyse the work of other photographers in depth.

In year 13 you will refine and develop sophisticated technical skills and you have the opportunity to express unique personal ideas through your work. At the end of the course, you will be fully prepared for a 15 hour exam.

You will build a portfolio of work for a Degree Course or as a complimentary A level to enhance you’re interview success for entry to courses in other subjects.

There will be visits to Galleries and prestigious Arts Universities with whom we have strong partnerships. There will be a large public exhibition of Student’s Work at the end of each year.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a Grade 5 in English and Mathematics and an Attainment 8 GCSE score of 46 in the remaining subjects.  In addition to this minimum entry requirement, it is preferable for students to have achieved at least GCSE Grade 6 in any subject that they intend to study at A level.
