Applied Business (Dual award) GCSE at Warlingham School

Course description

An Applied GCSE is a work related qualification designed to provide a route into employment or further education. It will provide a broad introduction to the world of Business. Applied GCSE is worth two GCSE grades A* to G. This course is for students who wish to seek an alternative to the GCSE programme and who may wish to seek a career in Business. The course is more suitable for students who prefer coursework to exams. Two thirds of the final grade will be made up by coursework. The production of work for this course will rely heavily on the use of Information Communication Technology and it is expected that students will spend time outside of the classroom improving their ICT skills, producing work and researching the topics studied. There are three units for study: • Investigating Business • People and Business • Business Finance How will I be assessed? The first two units are internally assessed as coursework, the final unit is external. Assessment includes: Project work, Assignments, Case Studies, Coursework, Work Experience and one test. The levels of success are A* to C for Intermediate and D to G for Foundation.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for an NVQ Level 1 or 2 in a related subject and depending on your other qualifications, you could progress onto courses leading to the Advanced GCE in Business Studies or Applied Business Studies. With further training, you could go into a job related to business by working for a wide range of companies in areas of marketing, finance, human resources or public relations. You could also go straight into employment as the course is delivered through a work-based training programme, will help you develop the artistic skills, knowledge and understanding that lots of employers are looking for.
