Children and Young Peoples Workforce Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

This qualification provides evidence of competence of being a childcare practitioner. It is suitable for a learner who is currently working in the childcare sector or wishes to work with children. This Apprenticeship will suit such job roles as: Early Years Worker/Assistant, Nursery Assistant, Care Worker/Assistant and Assistant Youth Support & Community Worker.

Course content

The Apprenticeship is made up of the following four components:

1.  Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce

Mandatory Units :

  • Child and Young Person Development
  • Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
  • Support children and young people's positive behaviour
  • Contribute to the support of child and young person development
  • Contribute to child and young people's health and safety
  • Contribute to the support of positive environments children and young people
  • Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
  • Paediatric first aid, unit 1
  • Managing paediatric illness and injury unit

Optional Units include:

  • Understand Child and Young Person Development
  • Working together for the benefit of children and young people
  • Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people
  • Support children and young people's play and leisure
  • Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people
  • Support children and young people at meal or snack times
  • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Understand the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties

2. Level 1 Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT

3. Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

4. Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) embedded in Certificate

Entry requirements

Telephone interview is required. Learners must be aged 16 years and older.

Learners should be working a minimum of 30hrs each week in Childcare

GCSE grades A*- C in English, maths and ICT (or equivalent) preferred

Assessment

Production of a Portfolio of evidence demonstrating understanding and competence in practice. Methods of evidence include:

Direct Observation by Assessor, Reflective Accounts, Professional Discussions with Assessor, Work Products, Cache Assignment Tasks.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
