A2 Level: Art and Design (Fine Art) at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville

Course description

The aim of the course is to build on students’ technical skills through drawing, painting, ICT and mixed media.  Students are encouraged to work independently and originally to develop their own interests and ‘style’ through art.  The course consists of two assessed units, unit 1 Coursework Portfolio and unit 2 Terminal Examination.  The Coursework Portfolio will begin from a particular starting point such as ‘Close Analysis’ where students will develop their technical skills as well as their understanding of Art History, before developing a chosen theme into a final piece of artwork.

 

Entry requirements

AS/A2 Art. Minimum of 5 GCSE grades at A* - C, across at least 4 different subjects, including English and Maths. Or BTEC First Diploma at Merit plus 3 GCSE grades A*-C or BTEC First Certificate at Merit plus 3 GCSE grades A*-C or DiDa at Merit plus 3 GCSE grades A*-C

Assessment

 

¨          Unit 3 Personal Investigation = 25% of A Level

¨          Unit 4 Terminal Examination = 25% of A Level

Whilst in Year 13, you plan for your future and there are three routes you could take; Art & Design Foundation Studies, direct entry to a degree of your choice or Apprenticeship.

What is a Foundation Course?

This is a course to prepare you for the Design degree of your choice. It is a 1 year Full Time Course of Study. It is the first year of a specialist Arts Education. On the course tutors help you explore and develop your skills: they will help you to find ‘yourself’ and apply for the right Design degree. After Foundation Year, you will have 3 years of specialised study on the course of your choice. IT DOES NOT MATTER which Art & Design A Levels you have studied.  The course will take your specialist skills into account.

There are thousands of Design degrees you could study, ranging from: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Fashion & Textiles, Digital Design, Architecture, Art Therapy, Interior Design, Landscape Design, TV Film & Theatre Design, Product Design the list is endless.
