Mathematics A Level at The Hayesbrook School
A tough course designed for pupils with mathematical flair. Each year students cover two core maths units which develop their algebra and geometry and one applied maths unit; this might be statistics or decision maths.
This is a highly respected qualification requiring hard work and determination to succeed. Pupils are required to work independently and be tenacious.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher
education. A level mathematics is often an essential qualification for admission to degree courses in Engineering, Accountancy or Economics. You could also go straight into a job, as the skills necessary to be successful in maths at A level are greatly valued by employers.
Over the two years students cover two pure units and one applied unit (statistics and mechanics)
We expect our Sixth Formers to have achieved at least a Grade 4 in both their English and Maths GCSEs, and at least 3 other qualifications at 4+ (or equivalent), in addition they need a GCSE 7 grade (or equivalent) in Maths to study Maths at A level.
Examinations at the end of year 13.
Many university degree courses to choose from and higher level apprenticeships are linked to A level Maths. It is a very employable subject and it links well with most of the other post 16 options at Hayesbrook. Below are some of the jobs that people with qualifications in this subject gain employment in.
