Course description

Being a Mathematics and Computing Specialist school our ICT facilities are of an excellent standard and our KS4 and KS5 students have a 100% pass rate in ICT.

The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma  course is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to develop their ICT alongside other A' Levels. This course has been developed to recognise learners' skills, knowledge and understanding of ICT.

It provides candidates with a high quality, industry-relevant qualification geared to the specific requirements of key factors. It is a vocationally-related qualifications that provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support entry into work or progression to further studies through Further Education or Higher Education.

  • Apply their knowledge and understanding of ICT and use skills (e.g. planning, research, evaluation and problem solving).

Course content

The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma will cover six Units.

Unit 1:Digital Business Communication

  • By completing this unit candidates will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of communication in a business context. They will also demonstrate how ICT can be used to support and enhance business communication.

Unit 2:Collaborative Working

  • By completing this unit candidates will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of collaborative working to produce a final product.

Unit 3:Problem Solving

  • By completing this unit candidates will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of techniques available for the analysis and presentation of numerical data.

Unit 4:Creating a Digital Showcase

  • By completing this unit candidates will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the process and practice of developing an interactive multimedia product to showcase an event or situation.

Unit 5:Advanced Spreadsheets

  • By completing this unit candidates will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of designing and using spreadsheets to process numerical data.

Unit 6:Advanced Databases

  • By completing this unit candidates will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of designing and using relational databases.

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at A*-C(Only 2 of these can be from ICT)

It is not a requirement that you should have studied Information and Communication Technology in order to take an Advanced course in this subject.

It would be beneficial to have OCR Level 2 National Award in ICT or the OCR level 2 National Certificate in ICT.

Assessment

All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. There are no timetabled exams for this qualification; candidates may complete units at a time that suits the centre.

The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma is equivalent to one full GCE A level.

  • Distinction - equivalent to Grade A
  • Merit - equivalent to Grade C
  • Pass - equivalent to Grade E

There are no costs for this course.

Future opportunities

This qualification supports progression into further education, training or employment. Appropriate further education might be:

  • BTEC Higher National in Computing
  • Degree in Computing, IT or related fields.
