Health and Social Care A Level at Smithdon High School

Course description

Health and Social Care offers the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of this vocational area. Students will study the aspects of Health and Social Care which are of particular interest to them. The course requires students to carry out independent research and will develop communication, numeracy and IT skills, all of which are important for both future employment and higher education.


Assessment takes place in June. Portfolios are set and internally assessed by subject tutors, then externally moderated. The Examinations Board is OCR. Students can re-submit portfolios as well as re-sitting exams to improve their grades. Work placement is an important part of this course. There will be opportunities to take part in work placement for 'hands on' research and valuable taster sessions for possible future career selection.
