Food and Beverage Service Intermediate NVQ Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This course develops your skills in working front-of-house within a hospitality environment, working at both the Derbyshire County Cricket Club and at our Roundhouse restaurant.  You will be part of our Derbyshire County Cricket Club Hospitality Academy, working in exciting surroundings and building up a wide variety of skills and experience.

Course content

You will cover a wide range of topics including:

  • Food safety
  • Developing skills for employment
  • Legislation in food and beverage service
  • Food and beverage service skills such as:
  • Serve food at the table
  • Provide a silver service
  • Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
  • Prepare and serve hot drinks using specialist equipment

You will also develop your maths and English skills, which will support your main programme of study and help your future progression.  In addition, the course features work experience and tutorials.

Entry requirements

You will need GCSE qualifications at grade D or above in English and Maths. Applications from mature learners with relevant work experience are also welcomed.

It is essential that you show a commitment to maintaining high standards of attendance.


Assessment will cover a variety of methods including assignments, tests and practical tasks.

You can pursue a career in a wide variety of front-of-house jobs.
