Child Care CACHE at Ormskirk School
This course is about learning to be a good parent and how to care for a young child in the home. It is an alternative course for those pupils who wish to study Child Care and Development but would find the coursework and examination demands of the GCSE course difficult to meet, and would be likely to achieve a Grade D or below. It can lead to the CACHE Foundation Course in Caring for Children and other Child Care based college courses. The course is made up of 3 units, all assessed by school marked assignments. You will build up a portfolio of evidence for each of these. There is no examination, but you will have to apply what you have learned throughout the course in these assignments.
This short course offers a specialist qualification for entering employment in childcare or for progressing onto further education such as BTEC Higher Nationals in Children's Care, Learning and Development or related degree programmes. You could also go on to study a relevant NVQ vocational qualification such as Playwork, which could be work-based. With further training, you could go into a job related to children's care such as a Nursery Nurse, Teacher or Care Worker. The course provides a work related programme of study so you could go straight into a job as it helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers are looking for.
