Early Years CACHE Diploma Level 3 at Gloucestershire College

Course description

This course prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

The Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator) is the only recognised qualification which will enable learners to progress into employment with pre-school children.

The course is two years in length and you will be required to attend 2 different placement settings for a total of 730 hours over the two years. The college placement officer will support you in finding the placements.

Course content

You will study:

  • Health and well-being
  • Legislation frameworks and professional practice
  • Play development and learning for school readiness
  • Professional development

You will continue to improve your Maths and English skills to support young children in the workplace.

Entry requirements

  • You need to have successfully completed five GCSEs at grades A* to C. This should include Maths and English at B or have successfully completed at level 2 course in a relevant subject and have made significant progress on the previous level of Maths and English.
  • Selection is completed following a successful interview, positive reference, enthusiastic participation in a summer experience day, and an acceptable DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check.

Assessment

Your performance in your placements will be assessed, alongside the assessment of knowledge through three externally set assessments and ongoing coursework set by your class teachers. You will also undertake a longitudinal study - following and observing a child's development needs and interests.

Financial information

A fee will be charged for the DBS check and a T-Shirt to be worn in placement. At enrolment you will be charged a fee for day trips or events.

Most trips you participate in will be covered by this fee, but any residentials will incur additional fees during the course of studies.

You will be advised of the appropriate text book, which we would encourage you to purchase independently.

Future opportunities

Upon completion, you may progress on to our Foundation Degree in Early Years Studies, or other Higher Education. If you choose to, you may progress into employment in day nurseries, schools and playgroups or as a nanny or childminder.
