A Level: History at De Lisle College
History maintains its status as a highly academic and challenging subject. It continues to be recognised as a ‘facilitator’ subject by the Russell Group universities.
At De Lisle there is probably no better time to be continuing or re-starting your study of History. The new A level was launched September 2015.
The History A Level will be taught concurrently. Students will study the AQA specification.
Candidates will study European and British History over a 200 hundred year period collectively.
In Year 1 candidates will sit two 1hr and 30 minute examinations.
In Year 2 candidates will sit two 2hr and 30 minute examinations and complete a 3,500 word Historical Enquiry.
The English Revolution 1625-1660 (1642 for AS level)
The Quest for Political Stability: Germany, 1871-1991 (1929 for AS level)
Students will investigate a variety of themes, issues and debates relating to this fascinating time in world History.
The Historical Enquiry questions will be generated by candidates but will cover Russian History between 1825-1941
The specification encourages candidates to develop their capacity for critical thinking and to see relationships between different aspects of history in its broader perspectives such as between its politics, economic, social and cultural dimensions and to appreciate the diversities of societies, developments affecting different groups, the significance of events and issues and the role of individuals within them.
•Acquiring a broad range of historical knowledge and understanding, including a sense of development over time, and an appreciation of the culture and attitudes of societies other than our own.
• Evaluating critically the significance and utility of a large body of material, including evidence from contemporary sources and the opinions of more recent historians.
