Spanish A Level at Paddington Academy

Course description

You’ll enjoy this course if you are passionate about the Spanish language, but also if you enjoy learning about Spanish and Hispanic culture. You’ll like it if you want to develop your fluency in Spanish and be able to communicate with greater confidence and enjoy studying and analysing film and literature.

Course content

Students will be challenged to develop their speaking and writing and ability to communicate in a range of contexts. They will develop language learning strategies to sustain communication and build fluency and confidence. The course aims to develop students’ critical thinking on the culture and society of Spain and Latin America. Students will be challenged to analyse texts, films and other materials in the original language and develop an appreciation and understanding of their cultural and social context.

The course will cover:
- Aspects of Hispanic society
- Artistic culture in the Hispanic world
- Multiculturalism in Hispanic society
- Aspects of political life in Hispanic society
- Grammar
- One text and one film from the specification

Assessment

Three exams, taken in summer 2019
Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing
Paper 2: Writing
Paper 3: Speaking
