BTECs are vocationally related qualifications. Art and Design encourages personal development through practical participation through a broad and balanced introduction to the core skills and knowledge necessary for work or further education in Art and Design. It is a 240 guided-learning-hour qualification (equivalent to two GCSEs) that has core, mandatory and optional units.

A BTEC Level 2 qualification is equivalent to two GCSEs. You will learn how to use a range of Art and Design disciplines and develop a wider understanding and appreciation of Art and Design. How is the course assessed?

Entry requirements

An interest in Art and Design, especially photography and ability to draw. Prepared for and motivated to work consistently and independently to achieve the requirements of the qualification

Assessment

The BTEC Level 2 Certificate qualification is graded at Level 2 Pass, Level 2 Merit, Level 2 Distinction and Level 2 Distinction*. Two units are externally set and externally assessed and five are internally set and internally assessed

Future opportunities

You could progress to other qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Nationals, A-levels in Art and Design or Photography, or an apprenticeship.
