Course description

Work Ready Extra is a personalised training programme specifically tailored to your needs and future job ambitions.

There are two parts to Work Ready Extra - a City and Guilds qualification course and a period of guaranteed work placement to give you a real taste of your future job.

Course content

By choosing Work Ready Extra you will be accessing a vocational and employment focused programme, which will take up to 30 weeks to complete. Work Ready Extra is made up of a City and Guilds NVQ in Customer Service (Level 1 or 2), training for work, plus Functional skills if required, and a work based placement.

This course gives you a “working CV” - Our work placements are what will help you standout when applying for jobs once you have completed the course. They will allow you to gain experience, and put your new skills into practice, in the industry you want to work in. For example, if your career goal is to work with animals you could work with customers within a pet shop, stable or zoo whilst learning more about the sector within it.

The programme starts with classes, held at one of our centres, working towards the City and Guilds NVQ in Customer Service, and then moves on to completing to a work placement. The average time is takes to complete the NVQ is 18 weeks, and the work placement will last for a minimum of 12 weeks.

If you have already achieved a GCSE A to C in English and maths, you may be able to advance straight to a work placement to gain experience in one or more sectors before undertaking an apprenticeship or work with training. You will also get some weekly employability training and job coaching support in one of our centres.
